Adorable Mountain Lion Kittens Found in Santa Monica Mountains

The babies are believed to have been born in late 2015.

Despite being born in a pretty congested area, Kuykendall said the Santa Monica Mountains are actually a high-quality habitat for wildlife.

“Many people are surprised that right outside of the second largest city in the country, we have enough open space to support a carnivore of this size,” she said. “This is good news for the mountain lion population in the Santa Monica Mountains.”

For now, the National Park Service will be keeping tabs on the little balls of fur.

A proposal to build a wildlife crossing at Liberty Canyon could help remedy some of the threats against mountain lions in the area and diversify the population, Kuykendall said.
