Alaska Airlines Passenger's Phone Catches Fire Midflight; Airline and FAA Investigating

There were no injuries, an FAA representative said.

— -- An Alaska Airlines passenger's phone burst into flames on a flight en route to Hawaii, and the airline and the FAA said they are investigating.

"When it started, I thought we were going down," Crail, 18, told KOMO-TV.

"All of the sudden there was like 8-inch flames coming out of my phone," Crail told KOMO-TV. "And I flipped it off onto the ground, and it got under someone's seat, and the flames were just getting higher, and a bunch of people stood up."

The Alaska Air spokesman told ABC News, "The fire was quickly extinguished by our flight attendants, who are trained for situations like these."

There were no injuries or damage and the plane continued to Honolulu, an FAA spokesman told ABC News.

Alaska Air has not determined the cause of the fire and is investigating the incident, its spokesman said.

The FAA is also investigating, its spokesman said.
