Bible Emerges Unscathed in Fiery Car Crash
A car crashed and burst into flames, but the driver and his bible survived.
-- A car went up in flames after it swerved off the highway and hit a pole near Memphis, Tennessee, around 2:38 p.m. on Sunday. The driver survived the crash and is in critical condition, Louis Brownlee of the Memphis Police Department told ABC News.
According to the police report, a police officer and witnesses at the scene helped the driver, who was not identified, get out of the burning vehicle. The victim's Jeep Laredo was allegedly side-swiped by another vehicle, causing it to swerve off the road and burst into flames.
The driver's Bible, which had been placed on the passenger front seat, emerged from the car unscathed, Brownlee said.
Brownlee said he has never seen anything like this in his time at the Memphis police department.
"The officer and other concerned citizens risked their lives to pull the man from a burning vehicle and that just speaks to the human connection that we all have," he said. "Some people are calling it a miracle."
What caused the car to burst into flames is still under investigation, according to Brownlee.
