Blood Found in Car of Missing New Hampshire Mom Krista Dittmeyer

April 26, 2011 — -- Police found blood in the abandoned car belonging to a 20-year-old mother who mysteriously vanished near a rural New Hampshire ski mountain leaving behind her infant daughter in her still running car.

Carroll County Sheriff Christopher Conley confirmed that blood evidence was discovered in the car belonging to Krista Dittmeyer, which was found Saturday in the parking lot of the Cranmore Mountain ski area.

The black Nissan Sentra was found with the engine running, hazard lights flashing, the door open and her 14-month-old daughter inside.

Police also executed a search warrant and on Monday seized a second car belonging to an unidentified person.

Cops have also executed a warrant to obtain Dittmeyer's cell phone records.

Over the weekend search and rescue teams and members of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department searched the woods near the ski mountain where Dittmeyer's car was found. Cops said today they were confident Dittmeyer was not in the woods and called off the search.

"One thing we're good at in Northern New Hampshire is looking for people lost in woods," said Lt. Chris Perley, spokesman for the New Hampshire Police Department. 'We're confident the area is searched and we're not re-searching."

Perley said investigators drained a retention pond Monday near the parking lot where the car was found, because "the water was so cloudy we couldn't tell what was there."

Reward Offered in Case of Missing Mom Krista Dittmeyer

Dittmeyer's family was preparing to hold a vigil for the missing woman and offer a $3,000 reward for information leading to her discovery.

"She would never ever, ever leave her in a car by herself, ever. We know that she would do whatever it takes to be here with her daughter," said Kathy Pratt, a family friend.

It's unclear why Dittmeyer drove an hour and a half to Conway. She lives in Portland, Maine, and is originally from Bridgton, Maine. Her family last spoke to her Friday night. Dittmeyer's mother said that everything sounded normal when she talked to her daughter.

Police said Dittmeyer did not live with the father of her baby, 14-month-old Aliyah. They said they had been in touch with the man, but would not confirm if he was a person of interest in the investigation.

Aliyah is in good condition and is in the care of family members.
