Boston Police Desperate to Find 'SWAT Cat,' the Unit's Pet and Unofficial Mascot Gone Missing
The Calico kitty AND two-year veteran of the team went missing three weeks ago.
-- The Boston Police Department's SWAT team is asking for the public's help to find "SWAT Cat," the Calico kitty considered the unit's official mascot who recently went missing.
A spokeswoman for the department told ABC News today that the whiskered two-year veteran of the SWAT team disappeared about three weeks ago to the dismay of the team's officers.
"She had become part of the family," a SWAT officer said in a news release on Monday. "But it’s sad, she’s not there. It’s like going to work and not seeing a well-liked co-worker."
The black, white and orange feline first joined the BPD in 2013 when she "began prowling around" the SWAT team's base, the Boston Police Department said in the news release.
She would roll over for belly rubs and show up "for chow time with the unit," the release added.
The BPD's spokeswoman said that the SWAT team soon after fell in love with the kitten, adopted her and got her spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
Officers are hoping their lost furry friend shows up soon.
