Break-In Reported at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando
Pulse was site of the June 12 mass shooting that killed 49 people.
-- A break-in was reported overnight at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, the Orlando Police Department said today, just one day after the club was released from police custody back to its owner.
The intruder or intruders allegedly pried plywood from a doorway to gain access to the building, according to the police report.
The business does have an alarm system that includes interior cameras, but the system was not activated Wednesday night, the police report states.
One month and one day after the June 12 mass shooting at Pulse that killed 49 people, the property was released Wednesday from the control of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Orlando Police Department back to Poma.
Pulse's owner, Barbara Poma, said in a statement today, “Since June 12, we have seen the worst and best of human behavior.
"We are disappointed that someone felt compelled to violate the privacy of our beloved Pulse Night Club and the sacred place it has now become. We have faith in the Orlando Police Department and its investigation of this break-in. The club will continue to remain closed to the public as we work to plan the future of Pulse.”
"As far as I’m concerned what they did was unspeakable," Barbara Poma's husband, Rosario Poma, told ABC affiliate WFTV in Orlando. "They pried the wood off the doors that was screwed to the walls."
"What did they do inside in there? … We don't know," he told WFTV. "I'm securing all the doors so it can't happen again.
"It’s a little emotional right now," he added. "I have no idea why somebody would come to a place where such a tragedy took place."
While Pulse was no longer in FDLE and Orlando police custody, officials said Wednesday that the investigation by the FBI and the FDLE is ongoing.
