Britax Recalls Nearly 71,000 Infant Car Seats
The recall includes the Britax B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite infant car seats.
-- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of nearly71,000 infant car seats manufactured by Britax.
According to the CPSC, there have been 74 reports of “handles developing fractures, cracks and/or breaking while in use, including one report of an infant who received a bump on the head when the carrier fell to the ground.”
The car seats involved in the recall include the Britax B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite infant car seat and travel systems. The CPSC advises consumers to “immediately stop carrying the car seat by the handle” until the repair is installed. The car seat can still be used when secured in a vehicle or on a stroller.
The products were manufactured between Oct. 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015, and sold at retailers including Target, Babies R’ Us, buybuyBABY and online retailers like Amazon.com and Diapers.com.
The CPSC says concerned consumers can look for the model numbers and the date of manufacture (DOM) on a label located at the back of the infant car seat/carrier shell.
Britax is automatically sending a free repair kit to consumers who have previously registered their car seat with the company. Consumers can also visit www.bsafe35recall.com.
