British Airways Flight Catches Fire During Takeoff From Las Vegas Airport
The passengers were evacuated to the tarmac, officials said.
-- A British Airways Boeing 777 experienced an engine failure on takeoff at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas today, federal aviation officials said, and video of the incident showed smoke and flames billowing from one wing.
The passengers escaped to the runway using emergency slides and were bused to the terminal, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
McCarran International Airport tweeted that the 159 passengers and 13 crew members on the flight had gotten off the plane, with two suffering minor injuries.
British Airways said in a statement: "Safety is always our priority."
"We are looking after customers after a technical issue with the aircraft," the airline added.
