Calif. Recycling Company Wants to Give $100K to Woman Who Donated Vintage Apple Computer
She was cleaning her house and wanted to get rid of some boxes.
-- A California recycling business is reportedly looking for the mystery woman who donated one of the most treasured items in computer history.
Back in April, Clean Bay Area received boxes containing electronics from a woman who was cleaning her house after the death of her husband, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
The company, which is based in Milpitas, California, later discovered that one of the boxes contained an Apple I computer, one of about 200 made by the tech giant from its early years.
Clean Bay Area recently sold the computer to a private collection for $200,000, the Mercury News reported. It wants to split the money from the sale of the Apple I to the woman 50-50, if they could only find her.
"We are looking for her to give her $100,000," the company’s vice president, Victor Gichun, said about the woman, who didn’t leave her name or want a receipt when she made the donation.
"I said, 'Do you need a tax receipt?' and she said, 'No, I don't need anything.'" Gichun told the newspaper.
All that Gichun knew was that the woman drove an SUV. In order for the woman to get her share of the money, she would have to stop by at the company’s warehouse so Gichun can identify her.
