2 Charged in Woman's Disappearance
Heather Elvis was last seen in December.
Feb. 23, 2014 -- A couple is behind bars in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis, who vanished after a date in South Carolina on Dec. 18.
Elvis' car was later found abandoned, and police were eventually led to Sidney and Tammy Moorer, who were arrested at their home Friday, according to the Horry County Sheriff's Office.
"I want to feel happy about it but there's no joy in it," said Elvis' father, Terry Elvis. "Heather's still not home."
The breakthrough in the case was made by Elvis' father after he said he checked her cellphone records.
"There were a lot of calls to one particular number in the last hours before the phone stopped working," Elvis said.
The number belonged to Sidney Moorer, 38, he told ABC News. Moorer and Heather Elvis may have had a romantic relationship, according to investigators.
The couple appeared in court Saturday. They each face two counts of indecent exposure and one count of obstruction of justice.
Both have posted bond, according to the Horry County Public Index, but they will remain behind bars as they await the possibility of more charges, according to Horry County Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.
"This is torture for everyone," said Elvis' mother, Debbie Elvis. "If they would just talk and tell us what happened -- I really believe they know where Heather is."
The couple could face up to 16 years in prison on the current charges. They're due back in court on May 2.
The Elvis family is offering a $30,000 reward for information on their daughter's whereabouts.
