Dust Devil Delays Women's College Softball Game

Players covered their faces with mitts to avoid the flying dust.

— -- A women's college softball game in Lynchburg, Virginia, was delayed Saturday after a dust devil ripped through the field.

The score of the game between Bridgewater College and Lynchburg College was 0-0 when the dust devil developed, lasting about 30 seconds. Players covered their faces with mitts as the well-formed dust devil swirled through the infield.

The game continued after the dust devil lifted.

Dust devils are typically strong, long-lived and happen on days when humidity is extremely low.
