FAA Implements No-Fly Zone Over Trump Tower Through Inauguration Day
The restriction cites "VIP movement" as the reason.
-- The Federal Aviation Administration has established a no-fly zone, effective immediately, over midtown Manhattan until Jan. 21, 2017, the day after Donald Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States.
The FAA's order cites "VIP movement" as the reason, and the zone prohibits airplane, helicopter and drone flights below 3,000 feet and within a 2-nautical-mile radius of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. The notice to airmen, or NOTAM, exempts military, Secret Service and emergency flights.
A representative for the FAA was not immediately able to answer whether or how New York City–area airports will be affected by the change.
