FBI Investigates Laser Strikes at Cleveland Airport
Two incidents occurred at Cleveland Hopkins Airport this past week.
— -- The FBI is asking the public for information about a series of recent laser strikes at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, including 25 that occurred in a single day last December.
In a statement issued Friday, the Cleveland division of the FBI said one laser strike occurred Wednesday and another Thursday. Both strikes possibly originated from an area south of Lorain and 105th.
Before these recent strikes, about 25 separate commercial airliners were hit by a laser pointer on December 16, said the FBI.
During those incidents, the pilots said the laser made it hard for them to focus and sometimes briefly disoriented them as they were landing at the airport, said the agency.
Anyone who knowingly aims a laser pointer beam at the flight path of an aircraft could either be fined or imprisoned.
