French Tourists Found Dead on Hike, Son Rescued
Boy was treated for heat exposure.
-- Two French tourists were found dead and their son was rescued after they hiked a trail in the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, authorities said.
The tourists were found by park rangers conducting a routine patrol along the Alkali Flat Trail on Tuesday, said the National Park Service.
The 9-year-old boy was found by emergency personnel and treated for heat exposure, according to ABC affiliate KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas.
The daytime high temperature in the park reached 101 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, according to the National Park Service.
The Otero County Sheriff's Office is investigating the couple's deaths. French authorities are assisting.
