Houston Grand Jury Chooses Not to Indict Police Officer in Shooting
Third instance in last month where grand jury did not indict police officer.
— -- A grand jury in Houston has decided not to indict a police officer who shot and killed an unarmed 26-year-old black man in January.
Officer Juventino Castro was working at an extra job at a shopping center when he shot and killed Jordan Baker, according to ABC station KTRK.
This is the third grand jury decision in the last month where "no bill" was issued in incidents that involved police officers and the deaths of black civilians. The two other cases -- that of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York -- resulted in national protests against police brutality.
The officer said that Baker matched the description of a robbery suspect and began charging at him when he fired one shot.
