Police discovered the human skeletal remains on Tuesday.

Human remains uncovered in a New York City backyard on Tuesday may be related to a death dated back to the 1970s, according to a source, who cited a tip to detectives.

The tipster, an unidentified woman who used to live at the home, told authorities that one night in the 1970s she awoke in middle of the night and saw her mother’s boyfriend cutting up a body and putting it in bags, according to a police source.

Police found two bags containing bones, according to the source.

The remains have not been identified, police said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, according to police.
