4 Dead, 44 Injured at Oklahoma State Homecoming in Stillwater After Car Plows Into Crowd
Police said the driver was under the influence.
— -- Four people were killed when a car plowed into a crowd at the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade Saturday in Stillwater, according to officials.
Stillwater police released the names of those killed and injured from the collision early Sunday morning. The identities of the three adults killed are Nakita Prabhakar, 23; Bonnie Jean Stone, 65; and Marvin Lyle Stone, 65. The name of the 2-year-old who also died has not been released by authorities.
According to officials, five children and three adults continue to be hospitalized whose conditions range from good to critical, The Associated Press reports. At least 44 people were injured.
The driver, identified as Adacia Chambers, 25, was taken into custody for driving under the influence after the crash. The case was being treated like a homicide investigation.
Authorities said Chambers' initial court appearance would probably be on Monday.
Police said the vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, smashed into an unmanned police motorcycle on Main Street and then into a crowd of people at the parade.
"We are heartbroken," said Stillwater Mayor Gina Noble.
Witnesses told The Associated Press that they saw a vehicle careen into the crowd.
"We heard somebody scream, 'Look out!' (He) plowed through a police motorcycle, and then a crowd of people," Dave Kapple told the Associated Press. "People were flying everywhere."

Stillwater Police Department Capt. Kyle Gibbs said officers were investigating the scene, and asked that anyone who witnessed the crash to contact police.
"We treat these like we would any homicide investigation," he said. "It'll probably take several days to get additional information as to the cause of the accident."
Despite the incident, OSU went ahead with the football game against Kansas. The crowd observed a moment of silence before the game.
