Jackpocket App Allows You to Buy Lottery Tickets Using Your Phone

Jackpocket, which launched Monday, represents the first app that allows you to buy official state lottery tickets in New York using your phone, CEO Pete Sullivan said.

The app dispatches an employee to purchase your ticket once you’ve placed your order. The ticket is then scanned and secured, and a virtual copy is sent to your phone.

“All of the physical tickets that are bought when there’s a jackpot going off are locked up at a safe an undisclosed location,” Sullivan said.

The app features six lotteries: Powerball, Mega Millions, New York Lotto and three other New York lotteries.

Retailers have agreed to split their 6 percent commission with Jackpocket.

Jackpocket is not associated with the New York State Lottery, and officials with Jackpocket say it acts more as a courier service, claiming it is a secure way to play the lottery.

Jackpocket reportedly made $25,000 in ticket sales on the service’s first day, and lucky testers in the focus group already racked up $50,000 in winnings.

The company plans to expand to other states.
