Jaycee Dugard Revisits Items She Has Checked Off 'Dreams' List She Wrote as a Captive

— -- During the nearly two decades Jaycee Dugard was held captive in the backyard of her kidnappers, she hid small scraps of paper to write down her thoughts and feelings.

"See mom," was the first thing she wrote down.
It is dated March 28, 2006, three years before she was miraculously rescued.
Dugard was just 11 years old when she was kidnapped by Phillip and Nancy Garrido in 1991 near her home in Lake Tahoe, California. She was held captive for 18 years and gave birth to two daughters while she was a prisoner. Dugard and her girls were rescued in 2009, and she was reunited with her mother, Terry Probyn.
Dugard, now 36, first detailed her horrific experience in her 2011 best-selling book, "A Stolen Life: A Memoir," and now has a second book, "Freedom: My Book of Firsts," about moving on after those years in captivity. The memoir is due out on July 12.
When Dugard sat down with ABC's Diane Sawyer for a special edition of "20/20" to air this Friday — five years after she first spoke with Sawyer about her experience — Dugard revisited her list a decade later and all the things she has checked off since being freed.
1. See Mom
"Check," Dugard said with a smile.
2. See pyramids
Dugard hasn't traveled to the Egyptian pyramids yet but saw pyramids on a trip to Belize.
3. Ride in a hot-air balloon
"That was fun," she said, laughing.
4. Learn to drive
Another checked item for Dugard, who strongly associated freedom with learning to drive and got her driver's license at age 29.
5. Swim with dolphins
Dugard has checked this item off her list.
6. Touch a whale
This is the last unfulfilled dream on Dugard's list.
7. Take a train ride
"Yeah," Dugard said with a big smile. "I've done that."
8. Learn to sail an old-fashioned sailing ship
This was a recent check for Dugard, who got to go on a ship called the Adirondack III in June. While on board, one of her shipmates shared a favorite saying, "You can't control the wind, but you can adjust the sails."
9. Write a best-seller
"Double check … hopefully," she said, laughing, referring to her two memoirs.
10. Horseback ride on the beach every day
Dugard calls this one a "kinda, semi-check." She frequently rides horses, but not necessarily on the beach.
