Officer Daniel Ellis was pursuing a lead.
-- A police officer who was shot in the head in Richmond, Kentucky, while pursuing a lead in an investigation has died.
Daniel Ellis, 33, of the Richmond Police Department died at a hospital early this morning. He had been in a critical condition since the Wednesday shooting.
Ellis had been pursuing a lead on an armed robbery suspect when he entered a bedroom of a home in Richmond and was shot in the head, state police say.
Another officer with Ellis fired back and hit the suspect, Raleigh Sizemore, 34, state police say.
Sizemore was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer and unlawful imprisonment, in the first degree. State police say that charge will now be upgraded to murder of a police officer.
Another man, Gregory Ratliff, who was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting was also arrested. He was charged with complicity to commit murder of a police officer.
It's unclear whether they've entered a plea.
