LA Deluge Does Not Dampen Oscar Prep
A little rain isn't going to stop Hollywood's most glamorous night.
March 1, 2014 — -- Hollywood's most glamorous award show is scheduled for Sunday night, but a little more than 24 hours before show time, preparations for the 2014 Academy Awards hit a snag as a downpour swept through Los Angeles.
Rain is desperately needed in southern California, where a drought has plagued the area for years. However, the deluge meant a few headaches for organizers.

Giant golden Oscar statues were wrapped in plastic after a flash-flood warning was sent to cell phones Friday night in Los Angeles county.
Downtown Los Angeles received more than two inches, which is double its total for the rainy season from last July.

However the city is still well below its average rainfall of 11 inches. About seven more inches of rain would be needed to make up the difference.
Organizers are prepared for the unlikely event of a rainy Oscar red carpet and erected a huge clear canopy above the red carpet.
With the rain expected to dissipate by tomorrow afternoon, it's unlikely any Oscar attendees will have to walk the carpet in galoshes.
