Man Arrested After Throwing Backpack, Jumping Over White House Fence

A man was arrested after jumping the White House fence Friday night.

WASHINGTON, D.C.— -- A man was arrested late Friday night after he allegedly threw a backpack and the jumped over the north fence of the White House.

The man was "immediately taken into custody" by the Secret Service "without incident" and charged with unlawful entry. He was then transported to the D.C. Metropolitan police department, the Secret Service said.

The Secret Service says standard security sweeps were conducted and nothing was found, and the White House complex returned to normal operations.

A spokesman did not respond to questions over the contents of the individual's backpack or his identity.
