Man Killed by Raptor Roller Coaster at Cedar Point Park, Officials Say
The man entered a restricted area and was struck by a roller coaster
-- A man was killed by a roller coaster at Cedar Point Park in Sandusky, Ohio Thursday afternoon when he went into a restricted area to retrieve his belongings, police and park officials said.
The man, whom police identified as James A. Young, 45, of East Canton, Ohio, entered a restricted area of the Raptor roller coaster and was struck by the ride around 5 p.m., the park said in a statement.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," the statement said.
According to the park, the steel roller coaster reaches speeds of 57 mph.
Sandusky Police said the Young had been riding on the Raptor and lost his belongings.
When he jumped over the fence to retrieve the items, he was struck by the ride.
It was not clear what items he was going back to retrieve.
