Would-Be Mayor Gracious After Losing to Dog
A Minnesota man voices his support of the new canine mayor.
-- Richard Sherbrook may have lost the Cormorant, Minn., mayor's race to a dog, but he has nothing but faith in his community's new leader.
“There’s no question that he’ll do a good job representing the community,” Sherbrook, owner of a local store, told ABC News of the new canine mayor.

Duke, a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees, won the ceremonial position this weekend and was named the first-ever mayor of the small Minnesota town, established in 1874. Duke received a large majority of the 12 votes placed, with Sherbrook receiving about two or three votes.
“I’m going to back the dog 100 percent,” said Sherbrook. “He’s a sportsman and he likes to hunt. He’ll really protect the town.”
Sherbrook, who voted for Duke, himself, admitted that the town thought it would be “pretty cool” to have its first mayor be a dog.
Duke will be sworn in on Saturday to begin his one-year term, and loyal community members will be there to support him.
