Nor'easter Expected to Hit on 1st Day of Spring: What You Need to Know

Nor'easter may bring rain, snow, sleet, gusty winds and chilly temps.

Just over a week ago, East Coast residents were in shorts enjoying the sunshine in what was the warmest winter on record for much of the Northeast.

But Sunday, temperatures are expected to be around 32 to 35 degrees in major cities and the snow will be classic for spring: very wet.

Spring might seem too late for snow, but meteorologists say spring-time snowstorms are completely normal and usually happen every year. January, February and March are the prime months for Nor'easters.

The rough weather may dampen the spirits of some New York City runners participating in a half marathon Sunday. The weather in New York City may include a rain and snow mix, possible sleet, gusty winds and temperatures around 33 to 35 degrees.

While snow totals could still change in the next two days, here's the amount of snow you can expect in major cities on Sunday and Monday.

Washington, D.C.

A dusting of snow to 2 inches.

Philadelphia

Two to 4 inches.

New York

Two to 4 inches may fall in New York City but even more snow -- possibly up to 6 inches -- can be expected in New York suburbs and on Long Island.

Boston

Boston is now under a Winter Storm Watch. Boston residents can expect 4-6 inches of snow, and those in Boston suburbs should prepare for up to 8 inches.
