Part of Minneapolis Airport Briefly Evacuated After Bag Tests Positive for Explosive Material

— -- A portion of Minnesota's Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport was briefly evacuated this afternoon after an unattended bag tested positive for an explosive material, an official said.
A backpack left on a scale near the United ticket counter was swabbed by Transportation Security Administration officials and tested positive for an explosive material, said Melissa Scovronski, the airport's public affairs and marketing manager.
A portion of Terminal 1 was evacuated, Scovronski said. Several airlines were affected, including American, US Airways, Spirit, Frontier and United.
The Bloomington Police bomb squad then examined the backpack and did not find explosives in it, Scovronski said.
All areas were reopened and returned to normal operations about 90 minutes later, according to the airport.
The backpack has been turned over to airport police for further investigation, Scovronski said. The owner of the backpack was not found.
