Pennsylvania Man Installs Festivus Display in Town Square
Paul Tucker wanted to honor a holiday popularized by "Seinfeld" episode.
— -- The center square in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, featured a new holiday display this year.
A large banner was installed next to a nativity scene – honoring Festivus, a Dec. 23 holiday popularized by a 1997 ”Seinfeld” episode.
“I wanted to do it to share some fun with the town,” the sign’s creator, Paul Tucker, told ABC affiliate WHTM.
The sign features script text: “A Festivus for the rest of us,” calling back to the holiday popularized by “Seinfeld” character Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller). Tucker’s display also includes an aluminum pole, reflecting the holiday’s opposition to commercialism.
“He liked the symbol of the aluminum pole because of its high strength-to-weight ratio,” Tucker said.
Festivus includes other traditions such as an airing of grievances and feats of strength, which Tucker planned on skipping.
“My son said he does not want to wrestle me to the ground, because it might hurt my back,” Tucker told WHTM.
