Now, the nation’s capital has its own beach thanks to the city’s National Building Museum.
Earlier this month, the museum opened its doors to “the Beach,” complete with a water-like sea of plastic balls, lounge chairs, umbrellas and even a snack stand. The hashtag #TheBeachDC is already home to over 2,700 photos of “swimmers” flooding their friends, timelines on social media.
Victoria Chao, from San Francisco found out about “the Beach” through Instagram and decided to visit the 10,000-square-foot pit while visiting friends in D.C. “I was hoping that on a Wednesday afternoon it would be not that crowded, but I was wrong,” said Chao.
Only two weeks after opening, the exhibit is drawing thousands of people per day, according to the museum. The massive pit can hold up to 500 people at a time.
