Police Body Cams Capture Rescue of Man, Grandson From Flooded Minivan

Texas officers waded through waist-high water to save passengers in minivan.

— -- Two Texas police officers rescued an elderly man and his grandson from a minivan trapped in flood waters -- and the dramatic act was captured through the officers’ body cameras.

As recorded by the body cameras, the officers removed their two-way radios and waded through the waist-high waters to reach the minivan, helping get the man and the boy out.

“I didn’t realize it was that deep,” the rescued man said in the video.

Both the man and his grandson were on their way to a Boy Scout meeting when the minivan got caught in the floodwaters, according to police.

Chief Rene Valenciano of the Olmos Park Police Department told KSAT-TV he was proud of his officers’ actions and offered praise for the body cams as well.

“They turned out to be a very good tool,” he said. "It captures amazing video on it."
