Stars react to the Las Vegas mass shooting as a new hashtag trends on Twitter.
— -- A growing chorus of celebrities are joining country music stars in "praying for Vegas" after Sunday's deadly mass shooting at an outdoor country music concert in the city.
At least 58 people were killed and more than 500 others injured when a gunman opened fire from the nearby Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Officials said the gunman killed himself.
Shots erupted as Jason Aldean, the headliner, was playing.
Aldean, who scrambled to safety, later posted on social media an image of Las Vegas with the words "Pray for Las Vegas."
Since then, the hashtag "#prayforvegas" has been trending on Twitter. Here are some of the stars tweeting about the tragedy in Las Vegas.
Gladys Knight, a resident of the city, was heartbroken.
Mariah Carey, who wrapped her two-year residency at Caesars Palace in July responded to the tragedy on Twitter.
She was joined by many other celebrities.
Some stars, like Ariana Grande, got political in their response. Twenty-two people were killed by a terrorist at the singer's concert in Manchester, England this past May.
Sports stars, including Chris Paul, Isaiah Thomas and Victor Cruz, tweeted as well.
