Queen Mary 2 Passenger Medevaced After Heart Failure
The ship was 180 miles south of Nantucket.
-- A passenger aboard the Cunard Line cruise ship Queen Mary 2 was medically evacuated Saturday after he showed symptoms of renal and heart failure.
Coast Guard rescue crews used a helicopter to pick up the 39-year-old man about 180 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, at about 3 p.m. They had received a call about three hours earlier saying he needed medical attention.
He was taken to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. His condition was not immediately released.
"Working together with the cruise ship and their medical staff made all the difference in getting this man care as soon as possible," said Petty Officer Nichole Cook, the operations unit coordinator at the 1st Coast Guard District in Boston. "They had a nurse from the ship accompany our rescue crews to provide medical support on the way."
