"World News" wants to hear from you.
Feb. 16, 2011 -- In an interview with The New York Times convicted con man Bernard Madoff said that banks and hedge funds "were complicit in one form or another" in his Ponzi scheme.
"They had to know," said the 72-year-old Madoff, who is serving a 150-year sentence. "But the attitude was sort of, 'If you're doing something wrong, we don't want to know.'"
Madoff spoke to reporter Diana B. Henriques for two hours at Butner Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, N.C. Henriques is writing a book about the scandal. The interview touched on subjects that included the effort to recover money for Madoff's victims, his son's suicide and the effect of the crime on his family.
Lawyers involved in the bankruptcy case see the interview as nothing but "more lies."
"The man is incapable of telling the truth," said one lawyer.
