San Bernardino Agency 'Deeply Affected' by Mass Shooting to Reopen

— -- The San Bernardino Division of Environmental Health Services -- "deeply affected" by the recent shooting that left 14 dead and 22 injured -- will reopen Monday for the first time since the massacre at the Inland Regional Center, the department said in a release Friday night.

The division's employees will remain on leave and temporary staff will take over duties, the release stated, adding that the Dec. 2 tragedy "deeplyaffected the other employees."

"The County has made it clear that no one affected by the Dec. 2 tragedy will be required to return to work before they are physically and emotionally ready," the statement read. "The County’s focus has been on providing services to the victims and families of the deceased, and making counseling available to any County employee who feels affected by the incident."

The Environment Health Services offices in San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga are closed indefinitely and work will be performed from temporary locations.

Fourteen people died and 22 were injured when Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, stormed the Inland Regional Center during a Department of Public Health training session and holiday party. Nearly all of those who were killed or injured worked for the county.

Farook was an employee with the division and worked alongside many of the victims for years.
