Scary Video Shows BoltBus Explosion Along Massachusetts Highway
All 47 passengers got off safe, the company and state police said.
-- A Bolt Bus caught fire and exploded on a Massachusetts highway this afternoon, but quick work by the driver got all the passengers off before anyone was hurt.
In spite of the fiery blast that blew out many of the bus's windows, state police have reported that there were no injuries.
The explosion took place on the Massachusetts Turnpike near West Newton shortly before 5 p.m. on a bus traveling from New York to Boston on I-90, a Bolt Bus spokesperson said.
The driver of the bus noticed smoke, pulled over and got all the passengers and their belongings off, also calling local authorities, the company said.
The entire eastbound lane of the turnpike was closed by state police while they tried to contain the blaze.
One lane was reopened about 20 minutes later once the fire was extinguished with the warning that drivers should expect delays, the state police posted on Twitter.
BoltBus said the cause of the fire and explosion is being investigated.
"We are fully cooperating with local authorities and the local fire department on the investigation and conducting an investigation of our own," company spokesperson Ashley Sears said in an email to ABC News.
He said a relief bus was called, and the passengers were being taken on to Boston.
Boston is the northernmost stop that any of the company's bus routes make.
