Two 6-foot sharks were spotted off of Tobay Beach.
-- A pair of sharks was spotted swimming off a beach in Long Island, prompting authorities to clear the water.
The incident is the latest in a string of shark sightings and attacks on the East Coast. It also comes just weeks after another shark was reportedly sighted nearby off Overlook Beach, according to WABC-TV.
A lifeguard at Tobay Beach called 911 after spotting the fish swimming off of the beach, near Massapequa, just before 11:50 a.m
A Nassau County Police helicopter then spotted two 6-foot sharks swimming about 15 feet off the shore.
The waters were deemed unsafe and nearby Cedar and Overlook beaches were also alerted because the sharks were swimming in their direction.
Beachgoers were allowed back in the water around 3 p.m.
