Smoke Odor Forces JetBlue Flight to Return to Jamaica

6 passengers received medical evaluation, officials said.

April 4, 2014— -- A Florida-bound JetBlue plane was forced to return to Jamaica soon after takeoff after a smoke odor was reported, with six of the passengers receiving medical evaluation, a JetBlue spokesperson told ABC News.

The flight was carrying 98 passengers when it departed Monday from Jamaica’s Norman Manley International Airport. The plane was headed to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, but returned to Jamaica about 15 minutes after takeoff.

The jet is under inspection to find out the odor’s cause. JetBlue is working with passengers to ensure their needs are met, airline officials said.
