A group of Alabama hunters caught the gator on Saturday in a creek miles from Millers Ferry Dam, AI.com reported.

The previous record-holder was an 838-pound alligator that spanned more than 14 feet from the Alabama River in 2011.

Alabama does not have an official alligator record program, but regulated hunts have taken place for the last nine years, according to AI.com.

The unnamed woman, 35, was traveling from Nigeria to India for the treatment of advanced metastatic cancer, according to the Emirati state news agency.
