South Pounded by Rain, Dozens of Drivers Stranded
At least 1 person died in the flooding.
-- Heavy rain is expected to fall across western Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado today -- a day after rain caused flooding across parts of the south and left dozens of drivers stranded.
In San Angelo, Texas, four inches of rain created washout conditions. Officials spent the night responding to at least 20 water rescue calls.
Further west, in Pecos, Texas, golf ball-sized hail fell.
The severe weather stretched east in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where residents were rescued from the rising waters.
The flooding turned deadly in Ruston, Louisiana, when the rising water swept a car away, killing an 11-year-old inside.
A 7-year-old was able to escape, clinging to a tree for an hour before being rescued.
