— -- A Southern California wildfire dubbed the Pilot fire has tripled in size overnight, jumping from 1,500 acres to 4,500 acres, authorities said today.
The Pilot fire — named for its location on Pilot Rock Ridge, near Silverwood Lake in a remote area in San Bernardino County — is 5 percent contained this morning, according to Cal Fire.
While there are no reports of homes burned, some evacuations were ordered, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The blaze began just after noon Sunday.
The cause is unknown.
