Surveillance Video Shows Final Moments Before Fatal Plane Crash
Four people were killed, according to NTSB investigators.
-- The National Transportation Safety Board has released surveillance video showing the final seconds of a plane crash in Wichita, Kansas, that killed four people in October of 2014.
The pilot of the Hawker Beechcraft 200 was in the air for less than 30 seconds before it crashed into a Flight Safety building at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, according to a report from the NTSB. There were no other passengers on board the private plane.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot, Mark Goldstein, reported losing power in an engine and declared an emergency. Witnesses told accident investigators that they watched as the plane turned left at a low altitude and crashed into a building.
At least one witness claimed to have heard and felt the impact of the plane from his third floor office building overlooking the runways.
The video and witness reports indicated massive flames erupting from the crash site.
The report from federal officials says three people died as a result of the crash in addition to the pilot. These individuals were partaking in a flight simulator session in the building where the crash occurred.
The report said investigators found no maintenance record discrepancies that would have affected the plane's performance. The airplane's last major scheduled maintenance was completed nine days before the crash.
