Texas Suspected 'Black Widow' Killer Allegedly Changed Story During Interrogation
She says her husband committed suicide.
— -- A Texas woman accused of killing her husband over his insurance policy first told police that an armed intruder killed him, then said he committed suicide.
Jurors saw an interrogation video Wednesday that showed Michele Williams, known by Dallas-based media as "the Black Widow," telling detectives that an armed intruder shot and killed her husband, Gregory Williams, at their home in Keller, Texas, in 2011.
"My husband's dead and I'm being blamed for it," she said in the video.
But three hours later, Williams changed her story.
"He was so stupid, such a stupid person for killing himself," she said.
Williams told police she lied about his death to protect her 4-year-old daughter.
Williams, a former personal trainer, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors said she lied about her husband committing suicide.
"It will all point to Michele Williams," said Tarrant County Deputy Chief District Attorney Jack Strickland.
Williams' son, Andrew O'Brien, testified that his mother asked him to help pin the murder on her husband's ex-wife.
"I told her I would call someone to take care of this but I thought it was her having a mental breakdown," he said.
Prosecutors said Williams killed her husband for his $650,000 life insurance policy.
"The motive was money," said Strickland.
Williams initially took a plea deal to receive 18 years in prison, but the deal was thrown out last year after she claimed she was innocent in a jailhouse interview.
Williams has pleaded not guilty. Her attorneys argued that her husband was depressed when he committed suicide.
