1. Red Carpet Prankster Attacks Brad Pitt at ‘Maleficent’ Premiere

A man was led away in handcuffs after attacking Brad Pitt on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of the movie “Maleficent.”

Witnesses saw the man -- identified as Vitalii Sediuk, 25, a notorious red carpet prankster -- jump over a barrier to the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood Wednesday. The man approached Pitt and came into physical contact with him, Los Angeles police said.

Security guards wrestled Sediuk across the barrier and called police, who arrived and led him away, arresting him on battery charges.

2. Remembering Maya Angelou

The celebrated poet and activist Maya Angelou died Wednesday at age 86, leaving behind a body of work filled with wisdom and insight.

Angelou rose to fame in 1969 with her debut book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," and wrote seven autobiographies and many poems, one of which she read at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton.

Angelou's last public statement was a Tweet May 23, which will join the canon of Angelou's oft-quoted wisdom: "Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God."

3. MH370 Search Crews Rule out Area Where 'Pings' Heard

Investigators searching for the missing Malaysian jet have concluded an area where acoustic signals were detected is not the final resting place of the plane after an unmanned submersible found no trace of it, the search coordinator said Thursday.

The U.S. Navy's Bluefin 21 finished its final underwater mission in the southern Indian Ocean on Wednesday after scouring 850 square kilometers (330 square miles), the Joint Agency Coordination Center said.

"The area can now be discounted as the final resting place" of the missing plane, the Australia-based center said in a statement.

4. Santa Barbara Killer Elliot Rodger's Isolation Strikes a Chord Among 'Nerds'

Self-proclaimed nerds of the world are speaking up about the misogynistic manifesto left behind by the man who went on a deadly rampage near the University of California, Santa Barbara -- saying there's a twinge of recognition in some of the sentiments about rejection.

But they're making it clear violence is not the answer.

5. Kim Kardashian Changes Name to 'Kardashian West' on Instagram, Twitter

Introducing Mrs. Kim Kardashian West.

The reality star, 33, who married rapper Kanye West this past Saturday in Florence, Italy, officially changed her name -- on social media, anyway.

Her Twitter name now reads Kim Kardashian West, but her handle is still @KimKardashian.
