Valet Crashes Jeep Into Pool, Police Say

— -- A valet who was parking a Jeep lost control of the vehicle and crashed it through a condominium building late Thursday night in Cambridge, Massachusetts, police said.

The valet told police a rug got stuck over the Jeep's gas pedal, causing the vehicle to zoom forward through the wall of the Regatta Riverview Residences building he works for and straight into the pool on the other side of the wall, said Jeremy Warnick, director of communications and media relations for the Cambridge Police Department.

The valet was able to escape the Jeep and get out of the pool by himself, Warnick told ABC News today. He was later taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries to his leg, Warnick said.

No one else was in the pool at the time or in the path of the Jeep when the valet lost control of the car, Warnick said.

The vehicle was removed from the pool around 1 a.m. today, according to police.

The Jeep's owner has been informed about the accident, Warnick said. At this time, the incident "appears to be accidental" and "no charges have been filed or brought upon the valet driver," he added.

Police were not releasing the identity of the valet driver nor the identity of the owner of the Jeep at this time, Warnick said.

The Regatta Riverview Residences' office did not immediately respond to ABC News' calls and emails requesting additional comment.
