Where to Go for Washington Snow Day Deals

Where to go for cheap eats and drinks in the district during the snowstorm.

As Washington locals brace themselves for massive snow, those same establishments are betting that some residents will get cabin fever and seek out a nearby watering hole.

The Hill's Roll Call noted that several establishments in the trendy H Street Northeast neighborhood, including the Louisiana-centric Little Miss Whiskey’s, were serving “H Street Specials,” knocking $1 off all drinks for every six inches of snow.

At the H Street Country Club, where patrons can escape the snow by playing indoor mini golf and munching on tacos, the theme was "Game of Thrones."

The H Street dive bar The Pug joked on its Facebook page that “if the storm’s the usual bust, $1 drafts on Saturday open til 8, and we’ll tar and feather a weather man.”

The website Brightest Young Things compiled a few more snow-day specials, like the Denizens Brewing Company in Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside the district, which opened early Friday to allow patrons to fill growlers with beer before it closed all day Saturday because of the storm.

Bar Dupont announced it would be featuring special “Snow Bar” hot cocktails and hot chocolate on Sunday (originally scheduled for Saturday), plus a themed costume contest.

But perhaps the restaurant having the most fun with snow day promotions was Barcelona Wine Bar. The restaurant's three D.c. locations were offering free soup and spiced hot chocolate to guests on Saturday and one in particular was also setting up a special hot chocolate bar.

The Barcelona Wine Bar in Northern Virginia was offering free tapas if patrons took a picture of themselves making a snowman or snow angel and posted it to social media tagging “Barcelona Reston.”

While all of these deals sound delicious and fun, those looking to take advantage better be within walking distance because all Washington bus and metro lines are suspended until at least Monday, beginning at 11 p.m. tonight.
