Watch Albuquerque Cop Save Baby Using CPR
Officer Martin Smith reviving the baby was caught on camera.
-- Dramatic video from an Albuquerque Police Department shows an officer resuscitating an unconscious baby while the girl's distraught family looks on.
Police said on Tuesday that Officer Martin Smith was called to a home on May 14 and found a 7-month-old baby girl who was unresponsive.
Smith is then seen in the video giving the child CPR, and rubbing her chest in order to revive her.
Within moments, the baby responds and begins breathing on her own as Smith is overheard saying on the video, "There she is, she's good. She's good."
"The officer continued to help the family remain calm while holding and talking to the baby until paramedics arrived," the department wrote in a Facebook post.
Smith told ABC News affiliate KOAT-TV on Tuesday that his actions were second nature, something he learned a long time ago.
"Anyone who's had that training would go into autopilot and start responding," he said.
Police said on Tuesday the baby was taken to the hospital and was "doing great," according to the Facebook post.
Smith told KOAT-TV he'll never forget this particular call.
"That's what makes doing this job good," Smith said. "That's the good part of it."
