Woman Accused of Death Threat Against Sandy Hook Parent Pleads Not Guilty
Lucy Richards is accused of threatening a parent of a Sandy Hook victim.
— -- A Florida woman accused of threatening a parent of one of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting pleaded not guilty in federal court today.
“You gonna die, death is coming to you real soon,” Lucy Richards wrote, according to the indictment. “Death is coming to you real soon and nothing you can do about it,” Richards allegedly wrote in another.
Richards, who arrived at the court in Fort Lauderdale using a walker, was released on $25,000 bond. She told Judge Barry Seltzer that she is on disability and has not been employed since 2004. She was represented by a public defender.
Among the conditions of Richards’ release from custody is that she stay off websites that promote the notion that the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012 was a hoax and other false conspiracy theories.
Her trial is expected to begin in a month.
Richards was arrested Dec. 7 in Tampa on four felony counts of transmitting threats to the father of 6-year-old who died in the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
