Submit a Question to a Wounded Iraq Veteran

Submit a question to the Landay family.

March 20, 2008— -- Nearly two years ago, a roadside bomb in Iraq ripped through Marine Cpl. Jeff Landay's Humvee and put him in a coma for 30 days, crushing his skull into the left side of his brain and leaving him with a severe traumatic brain injury.

The blast left Landay with liver damage, and doctors had to remove both his spleen and damaged tissue from his brain after the blast. Even a year ago, he could barely speak.

Yet the Department of Defense deemed Landay's injuries a "10 percent disability," though 30 percent is the demarcation line above which soldiers receive medical retirement with full benefits and below which they receive a separation payment without benefits. Michelle Landay points out that her son's life is more than 10 percent affected.

Ask the Landay family your question about their struggles and hopes for the future.
