Several organizations are available to help treat eating disorders.

June 17, 2010 -- Eating disorders affect approximately 24 million Americans, and approximately 10 to15 percent are men, according to the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness. There are many factors that can lead to an eating disorder, including depression, anxiety, and sexual abuse. In many cases people who suffer from an eating disorder have an unhealthy desire for perfection or are seeking control.

Here is a list of resources that can help clairfy the causes of an eating disorder and provide information on how to seek proper treatment. There are seveal organizations that offer support and connect people to a network of individuals and families who share share the same experiences with eating disorders.

The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness is a non-profit organization that works to prevent eating disorders and promote a positive body image among men and women. The Alliance offers educational presentations and mentoring services.

The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders provides treatment resources as well as a hotline for individuals seeking help.

An important step in overcoming an eating disorder is learning a to eat a balanced diet. The National Eating Disorders Association advocates healthier eating through public service campaigns and nationwide events.
