Poll Says Money CAN Buy Happiness -- What Do You Think?

July 1, 2010— -- Did your mother ever tell you, "Money can't buy happiness?"

Turns out, mom might be wrong.

A new survey from Gallup suggests that there is a correlation between wealth and at least one aspect of happiness around the globe. Those who bring in more money are more likely to say they're satisfied on the whole with their lives.

"Yes, money makes you happy -- we see the effect of income on life satisfaction is very strong and virtually ubiquitous and universal around the globe," Ed Diener, one of the study's authors, told the Washington Post. "But it makes you more satisfied than it makes you feel good. Positive feelings are less affected by money and more affected by the things people are doing day to day."

Psychological needs like learning, using your skills and respect all impact whether people feel positive or negative, which researchers argue is a big part of overall happiness.
