Dean Reynolds
-- Dean Reynolds is an ABC News national correspondent based in Chicago, where he reports for "World News with Charles Gibson" and other ABC News broadcasts and platforms. From his post in Chicago, Mr. Reynolds frequently travels to all regions of this country and abroad to report on domestic and international stories.
In 2004, Reynolds was the chief correspondent assigned to Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign, one of seven presidential contests he has covered in his career as a journalist. In 2000, he was the chief correspondent assigned to the presidential campaign of Gov. George W. Bush.
From 1995 to 1998, Reynolds was based in Dallas, where he covered major stories in the Midwest and Southwest, including the Oklahoma City bombing and the trial in Denver federal court of convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh. Mr. Reynolds subsequently covered McVeigh's execution in Terre Haute, Indiana in 2001.
Before transferring to Dallas, Reynolds was based in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem from 1986 to 1995, reporting on the the first Gulf War in 1991, the decade-long Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation, the influx of Russian immigrants to the Jewish state, the American hostage crisis and a host of other issues in the region and beyond.
Prior to moving to Tel Aviv, he was a general assignment correspondent for ABC News in London, and reported on the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986 from ABC's Moscow bureau. He was based in Washington beginning in 1984 and covered the Pentagon in 1985.
Reynolds joined ABC News in July 1984. From July 1982 until his move to ABC, he was a White House correspondent for CNN, covering the Reagan administration. He also served as White House correspondent for United Press International from January 1981 to June 1982, and as an editor and reporter for UPI beginning in 1971.
Reynolds graduated from Wabash College in Indiana with a BA in liberal arts. He is a son of the late ABC News anchorman, Frank Reynolds.
